There are numerous reasons why recipes are recorded, but one of the main reasons is for replication of that recipe. Cooks want to be able to copy a recipe that they need or like. However, some find a recipe and use it as their base recipe, but tweak it for personal preference.
“Recipes today serve many purposes, from documenting cooking techniques, to showing off a creator’s skills, to serving up leisure reading for the food-obsessed. But their most important goal is replicability. A good recipe imparts enough information to let a cook reproduce a dish, in more or less the same form, in the future” (Viet, 2017).
The Importance of Recipe Format
The format of a recipe can be crucial to a cook’s success in replicating it. Recipes that are poorly structured or arranged can cause several problems such as:
Disrupting the chemical process and causing poor results, and waste of money.
Wasting a cook’s time (longer time to complete a recipe).
